Philip Sim holds B.S. & B.A., triple concurrent degrees in Economics, Mathematics, and Statistics, from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities (2000), and studied macroeconomics with Edward C. Prescott, who later won the 2004 Nobel Prize in Economics. After a decade of bilingual education and youth mentoring in the Korean-American and adoptee community, he founded EduExcellence with his wife in 2010. Today an AI consultant handles day-to-day support, while Philip personally reviews every key decision.

1990년대 후반, 한국에 외환위기가 닥쳐 많은 유학생이 돌아가던 때에 심필립 원장은 미국 유학길에 올랐습니다. 이름난 다른 대학의 합격 통지도 있었지만, 세계적인 경제학 교수진이 있다는 이유 하나로 학교를 선택했습니다. 수학에 기반한 경제학 학풍 속에서 University of Minnesota, Twin Cities 경제학·수학·통계학 B.S. & B.A. 세 전공 동시 학위를 받았고, 훗날 2004년 노벨경제학상을 받은 Edward C. Prescott 교수(당시 유력한 수상 후보)의 거시경제학 수업을 들었습니다.
2000년, 졸업을 앞둔 마지막 학기에 그는 크리스천이 되었습니다. 그 해는 그의 삶의 방향이 바뀐 해였습니다. 이름 있는 학교와 직장만이 성공이라고 믿던 생각은, 바른 가정과 바른 삶이 더 소중하다는 확신으로 바뀌었습니다.
졸업 후 Central Baptist Theological Seminary에서 목회학석사(M.Div.)를 받았고, 약 10년 동안 영어와 한국어로 설교하며 청소년, 한인 가정, 한국인 입양아들을 섬겼습니다.
2010년, 아내와 함께 주정부 인허가를 받아 EduExcellence를 시작했습니다. 미국 현지에서 아이들이 정확하지 않은 정보와 소통의 벽 때문에 시간을 잃는 모습을 여러 번 보았기 때문입니다. 그 후 16년 동안 미국 사립학교들을 직접 방문하고 입학 관계자들을 만나며, 네이버 블로그에 1,360편의 글로 그 경험을 나눠 왔습니다.
His story
Philip chose his university for one reason: its world-class economics faculty. Drawn to its mathematical approach, he earned B.S. & B.A., triple concurrent degrees in Economics, Mathematics, and Statistics at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and studied macroeconomics under Edward C. Prescott, then a leading candidate for the Nobel Prize he received in 2004. That training shaped how he works today: start from data, test assumptions, and plan in clear steps.
After graduating in 2000, he spent about ten years in bilingual (English and Korean) education and youth mentoring, working with teenagers, Korean-American families, and Korean adoptees. He learned how much students need an adult who listens, and how often families lose time to inaccurate information and language barriers.
In 2010 he and his wife founded EduExcellence as a legally registered, government-authorized education consulting practice. Over sixteen years he has visited US private schools, met admissions staff in person, and shared his insights in more than 1,360 articles.
His approach is transparent. Families see each step of the plan and the reasoning behind it. Students write their own essays; his role is to help them find and sharpen their own voice. He does not promise admission to any school; he promises honest guidance and steady support.
